New Medicine Stops Brain Disease
Scientists at Heidelberg University in Germany have found something important. They found a new way to help people with Alzheimer's disease.
Alzheimer's is a brain disease. People with this disease forget things. Their brain cells die. This makes the disease worse.
The scientists found the problem. Two small things in the brain work together. One is called NMDA. One is called TRPM4. When these two things work together, they kill the brain cells. This is very bad.
The scientists made a new medicine. The name is FP802. This medicine is special. It stops NMDA and TRPM4 from working together. If they do not work together, the brain cells do not die.
The team tested the medicine on mice with Alzheimer's disease. The results were good. The disease stopped getting worse. The mice could remember things. The mice could learn new things.
The scientists also found something else. There is something bad in the brain called beta-amyloid. It hurts brain cells. The medicine made less beta-amyloid. The brain was healthier.
This is good news for people with Alzheimer's. Doctors may use this medicine one day. The research shows hope for people who are sick.
