Fenway Sports Group (FSG), which owns the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool Football Club, has bought a team in a new women's professional golf league called WTGL. This league will start in the fall of 2026 and will be played indoors in Florida. The new team will be named Boston Common Golf, similar to their men's team in the TGL league.
Competitors will play at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens. This place uses technology to create virtual golf courses combined with a real area for short shots. Top golfers like Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson have already joined. Megan Khang, a golfer from Massachusetts, is also playing. Many of these players are ranked among the best in the world.
However, the current top player, Nelly Korda, will not be in the league. She has said she does not like the idea of a separate women's league.
Despite this, investors are putting a lot of money into the league, with team prices around $20 million. Boston Common Golf is the fifth and final team for the first season. Other owners include famous names from sports and technology.
The WTGL league is run by TMRW Sports, a company started by golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. FSG has been planning this for a while, wanting to invest in new ideas that can change sports. The Boston team also has a program to help young people and women in New England play golf.
