Christopher Nolan has released a new movie based on an old Greek story. The film, which came out on July 17, 2026, is about Odysseus, a king trying to get home after a long war. The movie is very long, about 173 minutes. Matt Damon plays Odysseus, a man who feels guilty about his actions during the war. Critics say the movie focuses more on Odysseus's sadness and the destruction he caused than on the glory of war. The film was shot entirely using IMAX cameras, making it the first of its kind. The filmmakers used large, real sets and filmed in many countries, including Iceland, Morocco, and Greece. The story mixes different ancient writings and is told partly through Odysseus's memories while he is trapped on an island. He remembers fighting monsters like a one-eyed giant and a six-headed beast. Meanwhile, back home in Ithaca, Odysseus's wife Penelope and son Telemachus are dealing with men who want to take over the kingdom and marry Penelope. The movie features a large cast, including Zendaya as the goddess Athena and Charlize Theron as the sorceress Calypso. Universal Pictures funded the movie, and Nolan worked with some of the same people he worked with on his previous film, "Oppenheimer." The director was inspired by a modern translation of the ancient story. The film explores the hero's difficult journey and the human cost of the myth.
